Alia Alghwiri is a World Physiotherapy general executive board member and the chair of its education committee. She served as a member of the congress programme committee for our congress in Geneva in 2019.
She is a professor at the department of physiotherapy and the vice dean of the school of rehabilitation sciences at the University of Jordan. She has been teaching for 11 years and became the first full professor in Jordan in 2019. Alia is a former president of the Jordanian Physiotherapy Society and is the current general secretary of the Jordanian Athletic Therapy Association.
Her research interest focuses on the brain and how it affects physical and mental health. She has published around 40 articles and book chapters. Alia has also been involved in two Erasmus plus projects in the areas of physiotherapy higher education and the issue of disability. Alia has launched several physiotherapy initiatives and community programmes that have served people and refugees in the outskirts of Jordan and benefited thousands of people who need medical advice and/or assistive devices.
Jennifer Audette is the PT program director at the University of New England in Portland Maine, US. She has been in academic positions for the last 20 years. Jennifer is the director of social responsibility for American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)'s academy of leadership and innovation board, and the chair of APTA's global health special interest group. She has served on the physical therapy steering committee for Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) and is the director of a project in Guatemala.
In 2019 she was honoured with HVO’s Golden Apple Award. In April 2022 she was elected to World Physiotherapy's North America Caribbean region executive committee. She has done volunteer teaching and curricular development work in Suriname, Haiti, and Guatemala. She is a 2020 graduate of the APTA, Fellowship in education leadership.
Marcelo Cano-Cappellacci is a Chilean physiotherapist who graduated from Universidad de Chile in 1989. He is a full professor at the same university, where he has been working for 30 years. He has a PhD in exercise physiology (Universidad de Granada, Spain, 2009) and 20 years of clinical experience working in high performance sports (mainly professional football). His current area of research is the physical fitness and physical activity levels of persons with non-communicable diseases.
Marcelo was chair of the School of Physical Therapy (2001-2006), vice academic chair of the medicine faculty (2006-2010), and chair of the physical therapy department (2014-2018) at Universidad de Chile. He has been a member of World Physiotherapy's accreditation committee and an international reviewer for World Physiotherapy's accreditation programme in Colombia and Spain.
Alice Jones graduated as a physiotherapist in Hong Kong. She obtained her MPhil from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, MSc in education from University of Surrey, and PhD from the University of Queensland. Alice is a Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists and was admitted as a specialist in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy in 1995.
She was a professor of physiotherapy at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She has been a visiting professor to Leeds Metropolitan University, an adjunct professor at Griffith’s University, and an honorary professor at the University of Sydney. She is currently an honorary professor at the University of Queensland. She is also a visiting professor at Kunming Medical University, Sichuan University, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Shanghai Tongji University in China.
Daniel López graduated as a physiotherapist in Barcelona, and completed his PhD at the University of Barcelona, Master in public health (National Spanish School of Public Health), Master in respiratory medicine (University of Barcelona). He is an associate professor and director of the educative innovation group in the faculty of health sciences of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a member of the medical and audiovisual technology research group and the Biomedical Institute and Health Research Institute, University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain).
He is a visiting research professor and a member of the research group at the department of medicine, division of pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine at University of California, San Diego. Daniel has been teaching for 25 years. He has been a specialist in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy since 1998. He has published around 30 articles and book chapters on respiratory physiotherapy in chronic respiratory disease (COPD and pulmonary fibrosis) and therapeutic exercise.
Assuman Nuhu is a physiotherapist in Rwanda. He obtained his PhD in the university of Cape Town, South Africa in 2018. He is a senior lecturer in the department of physiotherapy, where he has worked for 13 years. He has been involved in the development and review of a variety of local and international physiotherapist curriculum. He has published more than 10 papers and a book chapter. He is the deputy dean of the school of health sciences, college of medicine and health sciences, University of Rwanda.
His area of interest is sports physiotherapy and has worked as the physiotherapist of the national football team for 18 years. He was nominated to be the chairperson of the medical and antidoping commission at Rwandan National Olympic and sports committee. He was also elected as an adviser to the executive committee of the Rwanda Sports Medicine Organisation. Assuman is the vice president of the Rwanda Physiotherapy Organisation. He has been involved in various development activities including capacity building and continuous professional development of physiotherapists. He is a member of the rehabilitation technical working group supporting the Ministry of Health and recently participated in establishing the Rwanda Rehabilitation policy.
Djenana Jalovcic is an education professional adviser at World Physiotherapy. She works on a portfolio of education projects ranging from physiotherapist professional entry level education and continuing professional development to facilitating community building among physiotherapist educators. Djenana provides advice on education as one of the key areas of World Physiotherapy activities. She led the development of the Physiotherapist education framework and the Guidance for developing a curriculum for the physiotherapist entry level education programme.
Djenana is an associate professor in the department of health and functioning at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences where she coordinates the online Master programme in health ageing and rehabilitation at section for global health and rehabilitation of the faculty of health and social sciences.
