A new era for physiotherapists in Türkiye

The professional scope of physiotherapists in Türkiye has expanded significantly through three important regulations.

Turkey regulations update

Following the Regulation on the Independent Practice of Healthcare Professionals, introduced in March 2025, which enabled physiotherapists to open licensed healthcare professional practice units, the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Regulation, published on 28 April 2026, marked another important step.

The Wellness Services Regulation, published on 4 July 2026, has further strengthened the role of physiotherapists in preventive healthcare, healthy ageing, and quality of life services, allowing physiotherapy services to be provided within licensed wellness centres and units, including those established in hotels, sports clubs, elderly care centres, and other authorised facilities.

Together, these developments represent a major step towards recognising the full potential of the profession, not only in rehabilitation, but also in preventive health, healthy ageing, and complementary healthcare.

Our member organisation in Türkiye, the Turkish Physiotherapy Association/Türkiye Fizyoterapistler Derneği, welcomes this progress and will continue its advocacy efforts to strengthen the professional rights, autonomy, and recognition of physiotherapists in Türkiye, and to further expand their contribution to healthcare.
