Brazil: World PT Day 2022

Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro

On World PT Day 2022 in Brazil, representative entities and teachers of the physiotherapy course of the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM) in Uberaba MG, in partnership with the Institute of Health Sciences (ISCISA) of Mozambique, began preparations for the event about a month before the date. In this month of dissemination, students were encouraged, through social networks and during dissemination in classes, to participate in a photo contest related to the event, in order to choose an image that would represent us. The images should be forwarded to the Padlet platform, through the link: https://padlet.com/cafagcfisio/pt_day2022

On the day of the event, the theme "The performance of Physiotherapy in Osteoarthritis" was addressed, through lectures with special guests, namely: UFTM teachers Cristiane Graminha and Denise Rossi and ISCISA’s teacher, José Daytone. Then, a conversation circle was held mediated by teacher Suraya with the intention of expanding the discussion on the subject. The main objective was to present to the community in general the characteristics of the disease and the importance of practicing physical exercises guided by physiotherapy to improve the quality of life for patients. The clinical characteristics of the disease, the treatment and the benefits of exercise for health promotion were addressed.

The toolkit made available by World Physiotherapy was widely disseminated on the social networks of the course and the university. The event began at 2 p.m. (Brasilia time), and during it, we had more than 60 participants connecting simultaneously, including the special participation of teachers and students from ISCISA, Mozambique.

In celebration of World Physiotherapy Day, ABRAFITO's Special Rheumatology Group organised a webinar with the theme "The role of the physical therapist within the multiprofessional team for the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis", on 08/09/2022.

The theme chosen was in line with this year's World PT Day, which includes informational leaflets and posters aimed at the general public, promoting the role of physiotherapists in preventing osteoarthritis and managing people affected by osteoarthritis.

Physiotherapists and professors Dr. Felipe José Jandre dos Reis (World Physiotherapy campaigns: the role of the physical therapist in osteoarthritis), Dr. Karina Gramani Say (Inclusion of the physical therapist in the multidisciplinary team in the pain clinic) and Me. Hugo Jario Almeida Silva (Translation of the PEAK course in Portuguese - Physiotherapy exercise and physical activity for knee osteoarthritis).

The webinar lasted 2 hours and was attended by around 90 - 100 participants. It was a very pleasant evening and a great exchange of knowledge on the subject.

The special group of Rheumatology thanks ABRAFITO for all the support, and everyone who was able to attend this event.
