The Kuwait Physical Therapy Association (KPTA) focused its activities on the day's low back pain theme by arranging an event in a well-known mall in Kuwait, Souk Sharq, by organising an event on the weekend following World PT Day (Saturday 14 September), to ensure the activities could reach more people.
The KPTA committees (Scientific & Awareness Committee; and Social & Sports Committee) prepared many activities for the mall visitors. The activities were previously announced in all media and social media, as well as on-spot coverage by the formal TV station of Kuwait. To enhance the day activities in the mall, one honorary guest was invited, Professor Soud Al-Obaidi (PhD. PT. - former dean of Faculty of Allied health sciences, specialized in Orthopedics & Spine). We had the pleasure to form a team of physiotherapy volunteers who are working in different sectors in Kuwait hospitals & private clinics.
The activities included:
- The stump Test for LBP.
- The wheel of Questions & Activities.
- Posture evaluation through a mirror & applying a postural evaluation form.
- Demonstration of the use of Thera-bands & Medical taping.
- Distribution of many publications emphasizing on PT role with LBP & other related topics such as neck, shoulder, hip, knee & ankle.
- Children’s corner was included for various activities such as painting & puzzle solving.
- Radio & TV interviews with Board members (in Arabic/English Languages) for raising awareness about the PT world day & arthritis PT management.
The honorary president of KPTA, Shaikh Dr. Talal Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, attended part of the celebration to show support for KPTA activities.
There were at least 200 visitors to the World PT day event at the Souk Sharq mall which was both satisfying and joyful.
