Qatar: World PT Day 2020

The physiotherapy department of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) celebrated World PT Day by honouring physiotherapists for the work they carried out during the pandemic. The challenges faced by physiotherapists was not only on the frontline, but also in extending their services online as there was a rapid transition to adapt to telerehabilitation.  The physiotherapy department of HMC with their multitasking and multifaceted task force worked from all fronts to keep delivering health care and continuing to care for the patients during the pandemic. 

Presenting the incredible work done by physiotherapists since the beginning of the pandemic, Ms. Noora Al Mudahka, Chief of Physiotherapy, elaborated on various measures implemented to handle the challenges posed by COVID-19. 

The presence of Ms. Emma Stokes, President of World Physiotherapy, was a highlight of the event. She was amazed by witnessing the history of physiotherapy in Qatar, that was displayed and said in her inaugural speech that physiotherapy has changed over the years and will continue to change.

Heart Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, Hamad Medical Corporation

The Physiotherapy Team from the Heart Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Department hosted a variety of activities for World PT Day 2020. The focus this year's campaign theme was “Rehabilitation after COVID-19”.

An information board regarding the role of physiotherapy and COVID-19 was set up in the Heart Hospital lobby for the public on 8 September. An information video about “Exercise and wellbeing” was played for the nursing staff in all the in-patient nursing staff rooms and admin staff in Al Qalb HR Building, promoting the importance of exercise during this pandemic. 

A virtual presentation was also held around exercise and wellbeing, conducted for the nurses in our facility. This was supported by the Medical Director Dr Nidal A Asaad and Executive Director of Nursing Mr. Ian Stewart McDonald. The presentation aimed to establish evidence-based practice about exercise and to suggest some exercises that could be done at home and in the workplace boosting physical and mental health.
