Background: Childhood obesity is a public health problem and its approach draws attention from other areas and sectors. Despite the prevention campaigns, the rates in early childhood continue to grow, which worries the governments and the population in general as they are confused about how to implement policies to stop their progress, in addition to the report of the Health Survey Nutrition in Colombia -ENSIN (2015) notes that obesity has increased significantly especially in early childhood. Obesity is the most frequent precursor event in chronic conditions, especially in diabetes and other cardiovascular and metabolic conditions, which are responsible for 70% of the deaths in the world. This requires governments, health system actors and other sectors to design and implement intersectoral strategies to stop this epidemic.
Purpose: Identify the referential of public policies on the prevention of childhood obesity in Colombia.
Methods: A novel qualitative and quantitative methodological design is used, based on the study of benchmarks to analyze public policies in different sectors and make decisions. NVivo 11 software is used to analyze the information
Results: The analysis shows the absence of specific policies to prevent childhood obesity, that in early childhood and food security policies there is a transition to the biopsychosocial approach, and proposes to refocus policies from a child rights approach.
Conclusion(s): The analysis led to the conclusion that in the studied period there were no specific policies to prevent childhood obesity; that there is a transition between the positivist and biopsychosocial approaches in early childhood and food security policies. Guidelines were identified to prevent childhood obesity from a children´s rights approach.
Implications:
The Conference and research work also has a proactive nature, because it identifies the guidelines of public policy to prevent obesity and the actions that should be followed by governments and agents of health systems, scientific academia and other sectors in the prevention of chronic conditions. such as diabetes and other metabolic and cardiovascular conditions; also draws from the field of medicine and health a new approach in the comprehensive care of people.
