The research aims to better understand of the role of PT and the experiences of collaborating with PT in multidisciplinary intervention teams managing children with ASD in Da Nang city, Viet Nam.
Qualitative descriptive research on 10 purposive samples including 2 doctors, 1 psychologists, 4 physical therapists, 1 speech therapists, 1 occupational therapists, and 1 special education teachers. Information was collected through semi-structured interviews and processed using inductive content analysis.
60% of participants shared an understanding of the role of PT, but 100% did not have practical experiences in multidisciplinary collaboration with PT in an intervention team for children with ASD. All study participants were able to do their jobs properly and understood their roles and those of other members in multidisciplinary intervention for children with autism. However, they did not have practical experience of working together with VLTL in multidisciplinary intervention for children with autism.
There are considerable limitations in awareness of the role of the PT and practical cooperation experiences of multidisciplinary team members in interventions for children with ASD. The role of PT should be introduced and emphasized to the multidisciplinary intervention team to help children with ASD children receive optimal care in Viet Nam.
Raising awareness among members of the multidisciplinary team about the role of PT is very important for children with ASD, as it can help the child's development process to be more comprehensive.
