Background: Tennis requires a high degree of training and skills in four main areas: tactical, technical, physical and psychological. The technical effectiveness and the frequency of hitting, have been identified as a parameter of prognosis of the performance in tennis, possible indicators to detect differences and effectiveness in the game.

Purpose: To describe the relationship between attention, anxiety and decision-making with the effectiveness of the technical gesture of sports forehand in children between 7 and 12 years oldB

Methods: Correlational descriptive study, in which it is analyzed the relationship between attention, anxiety and decision making with the effectiveness of the forehand technical sport gesture, in children between 7 and 12 years old. 24 children with an average age of 9.8 ± 1.2 years were evaluated, divided into two age groups (G1-G2): G1-7-9 years (8 children) and G2-10-12 years (16 children); the Difference Perception test (CARAS) was used for the attention variable, the manifest anxiety test (SAS-2) for the anxiety variable and a videographic record was made in the game situation, to evaluate the effectiveness of the technical gesture, and effectiveness in decision making; The intervening variable was also evaluated in the effectiveness of the technical gesture, the quality of motor patterns, by means of the test (Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor BOT-2). The assessment protocol was endorsed by the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Act 016-203-16).

Results: Positive correlations were found between attention and efficiency and effectiveness in the gesture, in the G1, and low correlations in G2. In the G1 a directly proportional relationship was found between successes of the test (r = 0.64), direct score (hits - errors) (r = 0.51) and attentional efficiency (r = 0.64) ). In relation to the variable Anxiety (SAS-2) vs. the effectiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of the gesture, an inversely proportional relationship was found between the concern and efficiency items of the gesture (r = -0.59), between deconcentration and efficiency of the gesture (r = -0.58) and between concern and gesture effectiveness (r = -0.57). For Decision making vs Effectiveness of the gesture in the G1 was found (r = 0.51). In G2, the most important relationship was between prediction and gesture efficacy (r = 0.59). In the BOT-2 motor quality test, the efficiency of the gesture was related to fine motor integration items (r = 0.51), bilateral coordination (r = 0.72) and strength of upper limbs (r = 0.80), as well as the fine motor precision vs gesture efficacy (r = 0.61) and vs gesture effectiveness (r = 0.54).

Conclusion(s): The variables analyzed in the study did not present significant relationships for the G2, while for the G1 the effectiveness of the technical gesture is directly related to the attention, and inversely with the anxiety in the study population.

Implications: The analysis of the relationships between cognitive aspects and the effectiveness of the gesture constitutes the basis for future research on the subject, and the comprehension of the eterminants factors of the efficiency of the sport gesture.
