Challenges Of Providing Physiotherapy Services During War Situation In Gaza - Palestine (October 2023 - May 2024)

Purpose:

The study highlight the challenges of providing Physiotherapy services for patients who are in need of these services ,during the Israeli's aggression on Gaza between October 2023 -May 2024  

Methods:

The Data was collected from MOH ,WHO and other organization reports between October 2023 till May 2024  

Results:

36 hospitals and 54 primary health care centers were out of service either destroyed partial or totally or invaded by the Israeli occupational forces , in-addition to 160 health institutions and 126 ambulances were targeted . 34 physiotherapists were killed (till May 2024) part of 492 health workers.

Conclusion(s):

The physiotherapy services are facing many challenges in conflict area like Gaza , where most of the physiotherapy facilities (13 governmental ,all 3 NGOS rehabilitation & half of UNRWA Centers)  either totally or partially destroyed , 25 % (7430 ) of the total injured people will need rehabilitation services mainly physiotherapy .

34 physiotherapists were killed (till May 2024) part of 492 health workers , these obstacles made huge load over the professionals and rehabilitation shoulders in providing services for needed patients.  

The displacement of 1.8 million people from their homes including medical staff ,who might live in tents alongside with their patients .

Implications:

The study will help the decision maker in Palestine to overcome these challenges ,in order to continue providing rehabilitation services including physiotherapy for injured people who need these kind of services
