Background: New technologies in virtual environments provide innovative and revolutionary possibilities of knowledge. These technologies represent opportunities for the development of a society in order to transmit the information. Simulation environments allow an adequate internalization of knowledge. However, these are occasionally limited in their access and this issue of limited access can be solved by the tools provided by the web. Virtual environments, including the simulation environments, create conditions for the appropriation of knowledge. This area of health requires adequate knowledge management.
Purpose: Design a digital, interactive audiovisual educational material in the area of cardiopulmonary evaluation and clinical reasoning in Physiotherapy at the simulation laboratories in the physiotherapy school of a public university of Colombia.
Methods: The process of construction, design and execution of the audiovisual-interactive digital educational material in the Cardiopulmonary Evaluation in Physiotherapy, was carried out between March and July of 2017. We developed this project through a multidisciplinary work, in 4 work phases: documentary preparation, construction of the tool, execution and dissemination, and the first evaluative phase.
Results: The development of the tool finished with the production of 23 video clips within a simulation environment of adult and pediatric patients. The platform allows a dynamic interaction between the simulations, diagnostic tests and the evaluation process through questionnaires. The students perceived the tool as useful, practical and easy to use.
Conclusion(s): The new communicative trends require pedagogical innovation. Information and communication technologies provide an opportunity to satisfy the information needs, so the platform was designed through schemes that allow a practical and dynamic interaction focused on meaningful learning through simulated environments. It is necessary to implement the use of the educational tool in different academic spaces.
Implications: Working through simulation as a teaching tool facilitates learning processes in the student. Nevertheless, integrating simulation with virtual platforms with Information Technology allows significant learning the permanent accessibility to this tool. The access to simulation environments in basic conditions facilitates the consolidation of the theoretical learning proposed in the area; for this reason, access to a free resource, available on the Internet, contributes to broadening the pedagogical tools for strengthening knowledge in physiotherapy and other areas of health.
