Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a common symptom which affects people of all ages. In 2015, the global punctual prevalence of activity-limiting LBP was 7.3%, involved that 540 million were affected the any one time in this period. Is the worldwide cause principal of last years for disability and your consequences are growing together with increase and ageing the population.
Purpose: The aim of the study was to identify the association of social and clinical factors with levels of functional disability in the low income elderly with LBP in the city of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, data from of 557 older adults with LBP aged ≥ 60 years were evaluated regarding sociodemographic and clinical aspects, pain intensity with the Numeric Rating Scale, functional disability with the Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire, level of physical activity with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short version), body mass index, educational level, health perception, emotional level and self-reported diseases.
Results: Of participants, 83% were female, 54.9% brown and 37.8% were sedentary. Pain intensity among females was 6.26 ± 2.19 and among males was 5.82 ± 1.84; functional disability was 11.68 ± 6.08 for females and 9.61 ± 5.76 for males, but the total sample 221 (39.7%) had severe disability. There was association between functional disability and female gender (p = 0.0018); level of physical activity (p = 0.0001); body mass index (p = 0.0003); emotional level (p = 0.0001) and health perception (p = 0.0001).
Conclusion(s): The findings indicate that there is association of functional disability with clinical, social and emotional aspects and with health perception of elderly with LBP

Implications:
- It is noteworthy that this study is pioneer in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, in verifying the association of social and clinical factors with the level of functional disability in older adults with LBP.
- The results of the study do not indicate scores of severe functional disability; however, in females, the levels found were higher compared to males. However, it is important to identify which aspects are most reported by this population when questioned about the interference of LBP during activities of the daily living, since they will be used in clinical practice both in rehabilitation and in the management of strategies for the prevention of health problems, independence, socialization and family life of these patients.
