Background: Advances in the quality of working life can be achieved through the health promotion. The identifying of stressors factors at the workplace can be the way that provide worker's wellness.
Purpose: This study goals to identify the demands for health information for office workers to promote quality of life.
Methods: This is qualitative design study using the focus group strategies. It is part of a larger project that will evaluate the effects of a health education program (e-learning modality) to quality of life. It has been developing at a public university, Bahia state, Brazil. Participants were 36 office workers invited by convenience that was allocated into three groups, with 12 individual each. The meetings with the focus groups were conducted using semi-structured interview based in three themes:
1) Musculoskeletal Health;
2) Healthy Eating and
3) Mental Health.
A moderator and two contributors managed the meetings. After the meetings, the testimonials of the participants were transcribed the spoken records, videos. The notes were reorganized and records details observed by professional were noted. In the first phase, the discourse were ordered by theme, from representative report identified by the feelings, emotions and affirmation of the participants.
Results: For the theme of mental health, the participants reported symptoms of depersonalization and exhaustion characteristic of burnout syndrome. To eating habits theme, workers demonstrated unfamiliarity with issues related to healthy eating, explaining the desire for commensality in the workplace. As for musculoskeletal health theme, they expressed concern over the inadequate postural habits and discomfort with the low level of physical activity.
Conclusion(s): The e-learning in health, focused on main demands of the workers will create greater involvement of these with the quality of life promotion program at workplace.
Implications: This study furnished a solid base for the construction of a health education program that presents effectively relevant content for the target population. Considering the main demands and empowering the workers may lead to a greater implication in the health education program.
