Purpose:

Purpose is to find out the quality of life in chronic kidney disease patient and to find out an improvement in functional independence and also to find out the psychological, social improvement in these patients when they do intradialytic exercises on regular basis.

Methods:

In the methodology thirty Chronic kidney disease patients who are on dialysis having age >30 and 60 have been selected. The procedure is Physiotherapist assessed the chronic kidney disease patients in dialysis department. The assessment of patient was done with  SF-36v2Tm health survey and urea reduction ratio. Physiotherapist monitored the vitals of the patient before starting of the exercises, during exercises and immediately after the exercises. After 6 months again patients were assessed with the scale and urea reduction ratio. During this period on dialysis exercises were monitored by physiotherapists and Home based program was given on their non-dialysis days.

Results:

The Result is overall Quality of life in chronic kidney disease patients, who are on regular dialysis treatment, was improved through regular exercises and significant reduction in value of urea reduction ratio too.

Conclusion(s):

And the conclusion is, the Physical and mental health improvement is very necessary because cure is not a rational goal for patient with chronic kidney disease.

Implications:

There is no known data in India regarding Hemodialysis patients’ physical fitness and exercise habits, but related data from the developed countries have reported that 45% of dialysis patients rarely exercise, and only 8% of the total patient population exercise at least once a week. Possible cardiovascular and musculoskeletal complications, insufficient motivation for exercise, lack of time and exhaustion resulting from the dialysis. And health professionals’ negative preconceptions towards exercise, and concerns regarding possible complications resulting from exercise, are factors contributing to the lack of exercise treatment in clinical settings for patients on hemodialysis, despite the proven significance of exercise in improving their physical condition. If we encourage patients to do exercises on regular basis they will  be better physically, mentally and socially. this zone of physiotherapy practice can make huge difference in hemodialytic patients. and will surely help physiotherapists to add some value to chronic their life.  And physiotherapy practice can get on more horizon.
