EFFECTIVENESS PHYSICAL THERAPIST AS ADJUNCTIVE FOR TREATMENT OF MOTOR DISORDERS THE HUNTINGTON'S DISORDERS. A NARRATIVE REVIEW

Background: Huntington´s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system. Being a highly disabling disease requires a multidisciplinary approach. The physical therapist is essential within the multidisciplinary team, its intervention helps maintain the quality of life of these patients the second population in the world with the highest number of patients with this pathology it is found in Colombia. Being a highly disabling disease requires a multidisciplinary approach. There is little available. Update informations allow public participation in strategies for addressing it, because in Colombia this is considered a public health problem.

Purpose: Update information on the participation of the physiotherapist in the management of patients with Huntington´s disease.

Methods: The type of study was a narrative review. The research group used scales for the assessment of the evidence, related to physical therapist intervention in the management of motor disorders in patients with Huntington´s chorea. The search for information was made to answer the question PICOT: What is the efficacy of physiotherapy interventions for the management of motor disorders in Huntington´s chorea ? The analysis unit consisted of items available in databases with high level of evidence and grades of strong recommendation related to the intervention of physical therapist for treatment Huntington`s disease. Inclusion criteria: articles in Spanish, English and Portuguese published from 2011 until 2016, related to the theme, with high-level strong evidence and grades of recommendation. Exclusion criteria were excluded those who did not meet the established parameters. Techniques and instruments for data collection: It was introduced in databases Mesh terms: disease of Huntington, Korea, autosomal, exercise, physical therapy, intervention, treatment. The databases consulted were: Pedro, Scielo, Redalyc, Lilacs, Medline, Pubmed. For selection it was used Methodology Checklist: controlled Trials 2.

Results: In the first search it was found 85,001 articles related to the multidisciplinary management of Huntington´s disease, to make the selection process and purification were accepted 16 articles of which 8 answered the PICOT question.

Conclusion(s): Further research on the effect of physical therapy and the role of physical therapist for the treatment of Huntington´s disease is needed which allows formulate guidelines and treatment protocols in the same.

Implications: This review going to contribute to knowledge on intervention Physical Therapist, in Huntington’s disorder identifying which interventions is provided within the multidisciplinary team that allows reduce the impact of abnormal movements in the quality of life of these patients from physiotherapy. But also to respond to their own need for the region in relation to disease considering that one of the most important centers of the presence of the disease in Colombia is in Juan de Acosta town. The results of this study can be the basis for future research that will contribute to health policies and strategies to implement guidelines for patients with this disease.
