Evidence-informed practice (DS-04)

Description

Have you ever experienced the situation where the patient is reluctant to take on board your advice on specific exercises and implies that the muscles and tissue are so tight that they need some manual techniques? The most appropriate approach is not always the one appreciated by the patient.

So, who is in the driving seat? Should the patient preference trump evidence based practice or vice versa? How to increase patient engagement and adherence?

This session will explore the complex and difficult ethical decisions physiotherapists need to make on a daily basis to consolidate patient preference and evidence based practice.

Objectives

  • Discuss the concept of and limitations to patient centered care
  • Explore ways to improve patient engagement
  • Gain insights into different cultural and health care settings and how to guide the patient
