A GENDERED APPROACH TO SPORT PARTICIPATION
Outline:
This seminar will introduce the topic of gendered sport environments (recreation through elite) and highlight disparities that create unique barriers for girls and women to participate and thrive in sport. Through audience participation the panel members will explore how other forces (e.g., ability, race, religion and global region) can ‘intersect’ with gender to neutralize or magnify these disparities.
Objectives:
- Explain the concept of gendered sport environments
- Define the term intersectionality
- Describe disparities that create unique barriers for girls and women to participate and thrive in sport and how these can be neutralized or magnified by ability, race religion and global region.
