Background: SARS-Cov 2 is causing a global pandemic testing epidemiological surveillance systems, in order to make timely and efficient decisions such as collective quarantine in the population, that is an effective measure for virus containment and contagion mitigation. However, different studies have indicated that this isolation can generate physical, emotional and social changes. According to these manifestations, these containment measures can affect the quality of life of the population.
Purpose: To assess the quality of life in relation to physical health and environment in adults in the context of the SARS-Cov 2 quarantine.
Methods: Cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach of exploratory scope, in which Colombian adults were evaluated in the framework of the SARS-Cov 2 quarantine by virtual means with a Google form that contains the World Health Organization’s quality of life evaluation questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF). All the participants gave their acceptance in the informed consent prior to answer the form. Data were collected in a matrix in Excel and the descriptive analysis of the measures of central tendency and dispersion was carried out there. Those who had access to the information were the researchers.
Results: A total of 1127 Colombian people answered the form, of which 92 were excluded by ethical code, thus counting 1035 people. Of these, 988 live in Colombian territory; 67% of the participants are female, 59% of the people are between 18 and 30 years old and 60% of the participants reported being single. It was found that, in the Physical Health dimension, 24% corresponds to a low level, 69% to a medium level and 7% to a high level. In the environment dimension, it was found that 9% have a low level, 61% a medium level and 30% are at a high level.
Conclusion(s): It is concluded that the SARS-COV2 quarantine had an impact on the quality of life related to physical health (93% at medium and low level) and the environment (70% at medium and low level) in Colombian adults. It is suggested to monitor the living conditions of the Colombian population after quarantine, and it is recommended to evaluate these aspects in caregivers of people with disabilities.
Implications: This research is relevant since, when obtaining information from the patient's perspective, it is useful to support timely and effective actions, both in measuring the impact of an intervention, detecting changes in health status, and in facilitating communication between the patient and the health professional. Therefore, this information provides guidance on therapeutic adherence and decision-making so that efforts are accompanied in improving the quality of life of patients in the framework of the SARS-Cov2 quarantine.
