Background: Evaluation of skin temperature, indirectly allows the evaluation of circulatory dynamics and the integrity of the autonomic nervous system. Thermography is a tool that allows the examiner to visualize and quantify changes in temperature. Is a non-invasive and painless instrument offering comfort and safety to the patient.

Purpose: Evaluate the influence of Kinesio Taping (KT) taped with different tensions and directions, in the skin local temperature.

Methods: Clinical trial randomized and blind, with two groups: group A (application from origin to insertion) and Group B (application from insertion to origin). Both groups, the non-dominant limb was the control. The KT was applied with 0%, 10% and 75% of tension over the region of the Rectus Femoris (RF) and the temperature of the segment was assessed through thermography. Temperature was measured in six different moments: before KT, after 24 hours with KT taped with 0%, with 10% and with 75%. There was adopted a significance level of p 0,05.

Results: There were no differences between the experimental limb, and the control limb. The temperature of the group A, with 24 hours at the 75% occurs reduction with significance, such as on the experimental (p=0.004) as on control (p=0.005), between the groups. On Group B, was a difference with the temperature among the pre and 24 hours with 0% (p=0.001), pre and 24 hours with 10% (p=0.016), pre and 24 hours with 75% (p=0.003).

Conclusion(s): In young and healthy subjects, the KT does not induce changes in temperature at the local of application independent of the directions and tensions applied. However, it seems to affect the autonomic behavior of systemic body temperature.

Implications: The findings of our study show that Kinesio Taping has no effect on the local temperature when applied to healthy subjects, however the Kinesio Taping is a therapeutic resource suitable for specific conditions, requiring further studies to evaluate these differences maybe caused from an autonomic response.
