Knowledge Translation (DS-11)

HOW TO USE RESEARCH TO GUIDE PRACTICE

Outline:

Translating research knowledge into practice is critical for optimising healthcare. The good news for physiotherapists is that there is a large quantity of clinical research (eg, in February 2023 PEDro [pedro.org.au] indexed nearly 58-thousand articles reporting the results of trials, reviews, and guidelines evaluating the effects of physiotherapy interventions). Applying this knowledge into clinical practice can be challenging. This discussion session will focus on strategies to facilitate knowledge translation. We will use the “Knowledge to Action Framework” [1] to structure the discussion. Participants can access a free copy of the Framework from https://dx.doi.org/10.1002/chp.47 (click the “Download” hyperlink), and are encouraged to view Figure 1 during the session.

Objectives:
  1. Understand the importance of using high quality clinical research to guide practice
  2. Describe the Knowledge to Action Framework
  3. Identify strategies to facilitate knowledge translation
