Managing Msk Conditions (SEM-12)

WHAT SHOULD WE BE TEACHING PHYSIOTHERAPISTS ABOUT MANAGING MSK CONDITIONS - SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES TO SOLVE A GLOBAL PROBLEM?

Outline:

A World Physiotherapy seminar during the WCPT Congress 2019 took the editorial from Lewis and O’Sullivan (2018) and explored the action required to reframe care for people with non-traumatic musculoskeletal pain. That session led to a new paper focusing on proposed actions (Lewis et al, 2021).

A recent editorial by Finucane et al (2023) suggested that there is a need for a global education forum to develop a consensus on what pre-registration education teaching and learning should include recognising that this should not only be a high-income Western world view.

The aim of this session will be to explore different perspectives what that education should look like. Further discussion on this topic will take place at the IFOMPT networking session.

Objectives:
  1. To identify the key aspects that need to change in pre-registration teaching and learning for physiotherapists in order to have an impact on the global burden of MSK conditions
