Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation (DS-13)

ADAPTING PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR LIFE BEYOND REHABILITATION: SUPPORTING PEOPLE WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY IN THE COMMUNITY

Outline:

The World Health Organisation recognises that there is an increasing need for rehabilitation globally, however many people who require rehabilitation services do not receive them. In some countries Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) rehabilitation extends from hospital to community and in other countries limited organised rehabilitation or physiotherapy within the community is available. This session will explore community rehabilitation for people with SCI in different settings, discuss how physiotherapists support people with SCI in the community and consider ideas to increase access to community rehabilitation globally.

Objectives:
  1. Discuss access to community rehabilitation in different settings
  2. Explore how physiotherapists support people with SCI in the community
  3. Hear the perspectives of the audience on SCI community rehabilitation in their setting
