Translation And Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Gujarati Version Of Functional Status Questionnaire

Purpose:

To translate and cross-culturally adapt the functional status questionnaire into Gujarati and to find validity and reliability of the Gujarati version of FSQ. (G-FSQ)

Methods:

Ethics approval was taken from SBB-IRB, Ahmedabad. The methodological study was conducted at the SBB College of Physiotherapy. Permission was taken from the authors of the Functional Status Questionnaire to translate the FSQ version from English to Gujarati language. The scale was translated following the translation and cross-cultural adaptation guidelines given by WHO.  Qualitative and Quantitative validation through expert review was done. The expert panel's suggested changes were implemented. A pilot study was done on 10 adults to evaluate test-retest reliability. Reliability was found by calculating the Interclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) for single measures and Cronbach’s alpha. The Content Validity Index was calculated including I-CVI for each question in the scale and S-CVI for the scale. SPSS v21.0 was used.

Results:

 I-CVI values ranged from 0.76-0.92 and S-CVI for the scale was 0.89. ICC for single measures was 0.97 (0.88-0.99, 95% confidence interval) and Cronbach’s alpha was 0.984 for the Gujarati adaptation of the FSQ scale.

Conclusion(s):

The Gujarati version of the Functional Status Questionnaire demonstrated good reliability and validity. 

Implications:

The Gujarati version of the Functional Status Questionnaire will be useful  for measuring functional status in the Gujarati population. It helps to identify the challenges and strengths specific to them. This culturally sensitive approach can improve communication, engagement, and quality of care, leading to better monitoring in Gujarat.
