Background: In Colombia, Paralympic sport has had an important recognition at national and international level in the last decade, however the investigations that have been carried out about these sports have been more qualitative than quantitative.
On the other hand, in Colombia there are no documented or validated batteries for evaluating the sport-motor status for Paralympic swimmers for any functional classification. Based on the foregoing, in order to favor the characterization of athletes, the injury prevention program and to have reliable data to generate reliable prescription and planning processes of physical exercise for Paralympic swimmers, the present investigation will be carried out.
Purpose: Determinate validation of the content of the P-SwimFit sports-motor evaluation battery for Colombian Paralympic swimmers.
Methods: Validation study that consisted of four (4) phases:
First phase: Comprehensive thematic review of the bibliography in different databases
Second phase: Critical reading of the articles applying the templates of CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE, STARD, SPIRIT.
Third phase: The battery will be designed with specific tests and tests for each sport-motor quality and the document will be drafted.
Fourth phase: Content validation will be done through expert judgment with the Delphi method and pilot testing will be conducted with two Paralympic swimmers.
Results: Made a literature review, founding 2365 articles in different databases, of which were selected 55 that accomplish the select criteria. The P-SwimFit battery contains 15 tests and tests: 3 for aerobic capacity, 4 for muscle strength, 2 for flexibility, 2 for proprioception, 2 for body composition and 2 for balance. Each test and / or test has the protocol, the equipment, recommendations and suggestions.
Content validation was obtained through expert judgment in which 4 evaluators participated. The statistical analysis to evaluate the agreement between evaluators was carried out with Kappa and W-Kendall. W-Kendall: Pertinence=0,437 p-value=0,001; Sufficiency=0,355 p-value=0,001; Relevance=0,381 p-value=0,004.
Conclusion(s): It was possible to design the P-SwimFit battery for Paralympic swimmers, reaching the first validation phase, counting also for the next phase with the third version of the battery
The need is seen by the interdisciplinary team to have a battery that evaluated the motor sport condition of the swimmers, since it not only allows for a characterization of the athlete in the training and competition processes (which is very necessary ), but allows to evaluate disabled swimmers who are opting to reach the Paralympic Games
Implications: Having a validated and certified evaluation battery guides the Physiotherapists to generate specific injury prevention programs for these athletes, as well as other disciplines, sports coaches, physical educators, sports doctors, among others, develop programs aimed at optimizing the performance of the athlete, taking into account the planning and periodization of the exercise, through reliable data which account for the actual physical condition of the athlete, also keep track of the process that the athlete takes during training.
