Several sessions in the first day of congress covered the role of equality, equity, diversity and inclusion in global health.
In a World Physiotherapy seminar, Emma Stokes described how the organisation continues to evolve its role in equality, equity, diversity and inclusion leadership and how it has continued to harness opportunities for unity and growth within the profession. The session was extremely well received by participants. One person commented: "I'm appreciating how thought provoking this session is. It is enlightening and at the same time challenging in terms of actually practising equality and diversity in our profession".

A focused symposium on refugee and migrant health was chaired by Emer McGowan, from Ireland, and presented the experiences and perspectives of physiotherapists who work with displaced populations and people who are migrant workers.

The topic of oppression, marginalisation and stigma was the focus of an insightful and interactive discussion session where the panel explored examples of these related to obesity, disability, race, culture, gender disparities and domestic violence. The session was chaired by Hana Alsobayel, from Saudi Arabia, and Stacy de Gale, from Trinidad and Tobago.
