World Physiotherapy Congress 2021 moves to online event

The World Physiotherapy board has been reviewing the options for continuing to plan for a physical event in Dubai in April 2021.

While recognising the importance of bringing the global physiotherapy profession together, the board has reflected on a range of uncertainties around COVID-19 (for example, government travel guidance, social distancing, employer and travel restrictions) and the impact on the wider physiotherapy community.

After careful consideration, the board has decided to move to an online event for congress in 2021.

Watch Emma Stokes, World Physiotherapy president, talk about the board's decision to move to an online event in 2021.

Emma Stokes, World Physiotherapy president, said: “We are living in such extraordinary times. The impact of COVID-19 has been felt by each and every physiotherapist in our global community. World Physiotherapy congresses are a time of sharing and celebration and we are all very disappointed that it seems impossible that we could have gathered together in April next year. Hence our decision to move to a virtual event.

“We truly believe that it will be very important to come together as a global community – to connect and engage in a different way than in previous congresses. We will have new knowledge to share and big questions to consider.

“We look forward to the opportunities that this virtual congress will offer as we continue to strive to be a global community where every physiotherapist feels connected and engaged.”

More details will follow as planning moves forward.
