To celebrate World Physical Therapy Day 2019, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Sri Lanka, together with physio life care Sri Lanka, held various events as part of their campaign. The activities focussed around this year's theme of chronic pain and the role that physical therapy and physical activity have in its management and treatment. A booth with various promotional activities was set up to teach the public and promote the following key messages from the campaign:
- Exercise as a therapy is included in all guidelines for treatment of chronic pain.
- The brain plays an important role in chronic pain.
- It’s important to dispel myths associated with chronic pain.
- Exercise is beneficial and physical therapists play an important role in developing patient-centered activity and exercise programmers.
- Physical therapists helps people with chronic pain develop the skills they need to manage and take control of their condition.
The following activities also took place:
- 15 health promotional activities were held across Sri Lanka by physical therapists from January to September to mark the day. These programmes, ranged from static exercises and balance training to stretching or bone strengthening exercises and a treasure hunt.
- 16 workshops and research for elders to show how daily exercise is essential for both physical and mental development and to prevent the onset of chronic pain.
- 8 workshops for pregnant women to develop knowledgeabout prenatal and postnatal physical activities related to pain
