Physio Life Care Sri Lanka
Physio Life Care Sri Lanka celebrated World Physiotherapy Day 2024 with a theme centred on the prevention and management of low back pain (LBP). The event ran over six months, featuring a wide range of activities to educate the public on the importance of physiotherapy in addressing LBP, a prevalent condition affecting people across all age groups and demographics.
The program was designed in collaboration with The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Sri Lanka and the Health & Beauty Club YouTube Channel, expanding outreach and engagement with the target audience. The initiative's focus was to raise awareness of how physiotherapy can prevent and treat low back pain, improving the quality of life for affected individuals.
Several activities and programmes were conducted during the six-month event to spread awareness and provide practical interventions for low back pain. These activities included:
- lecture demonstrations
- free physiotherapy clinics
- workshops
The events strategically focused on key groups that are particularly vulnerable to low back pain:
- elders
- mothers and pregnant mothers
- sports teams
- office workers
The events successfully achieved several key outcomes, including:
- increased awareness
- community engagement
- enhanced collaboration
The celebrations for World Physiotherapy Day 2024 were a resounding success, with Physio Life Care Sri Lanka at the forefront of raising awareness about Low Back Pain and providing practical solutions for prevention and management. By engaging diverse groups and addressing specific needs, the event highlighted the crucial role physiotherapy plays in improving quality of life and managing common musculoskeletal issues like LBP.
Through sustained efforts and strong partnerships, Physio Life Care Sri Lanka continues to advocate for health and wellness, emphasizing the power of physiotherapy in addressing everyday health challenges.
University of Colombo
The Physiotherapy Students’ Welfare Society, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo organised the “Colombo Physiotherapy Week – 2024” to commemorate the World PT Day 2024. This consisted of a series of webinars and on-site physiotherapy awareness programmes from 2 September 2024 to 8 September 2024. All the awareness programmes were mainly focusing on this year’s theme of “Low Back Pain”.
The purpose of organising this event was to:
- mark World PT Day 2024
- enhance the social awareness of physiotherapy treatment in Sri Lanka
- improve awareness of the public on the role of physiotherapy in preventing low back pain, and in the management of people with low back pain
- make the undergraduates proud of their profession
The Colombo Physiotherapy Week 2024 included the following activities:
- Inauguration Ceremony & Lower Back Pain Physiotherapy Management Workshop for Undergraduates.
- Workshop on Occupational Injuries and Their Management for University Non-academic Staff.
- An international Webinar Based on Lower Back Pain.
- Physiotherapy Clinic Including Treatments for Lower Back Pain and Other Conditions.
- Lower Back Pain & Prevention Public Awareness Programme.
- Managing And Preventing Lower Back Pain Public Awareness Webinar & Closing Ceremony
