Cornelius Mahdi Ishaku: Ageing and associated factors in the Africa region context
Cornelius holds a bachelor of medical rehabilitation in physiotherapy from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, a master's in physiotherapy (with specialisation in geriatrics) from Bayero University Kano, Nigeria, a post-graduate diploma in management from Gombe State University, Nigeria, and is currently pursuing a PhD in physiotherapy (geriatrics) at Bayero University Kano, Nigeria.
His research interests lie primarily at the intersection of physiotherapy, ageing, physical activity, and public health. He uses epidemiological/survey methods and retrospective clinical data to explore and conduct research, with more than 230 citations on Google Scholar. Before joining Federal University Wukari, his roles and responsibilities included head of physiotherapy department at General Hospital Kaltungo, examination, timetable & records officer, SIWES coordinator, at University of Maiduguri.
A dedicated physiotherapist academic with a strong interest in geriatrics, public health, and physiotherapy practice, he combines research, teaching, and community service, and has increasingly taken on leadership roles.

Dilane Landry Nsangou Muntessu: Falls prevention among older people in Cameroon: evidence-based strategies tailored to specific local needs
Dilane is a clinical physiotherapist and certified teacher-researcher in orthopedic manual therapy, specialising in neuro-musculoskeletal disorders and sports rehabilitation. He strongly integrates evidence-based practice (EBP) into his care, teaching, and research.
He teaches at the BTS, Bachelor's, and Master's levels in several higher education institutions in Cameroon and has supervised more than twenty dissertations. Clinically, he has solid experience in sports (Aigle Royal de la Menoua, NGV Football Academy), neurology, and orthopedics in a number of medical centres. An active speaker, he participates in national and international events, including the World Physiotherapy Congress 2025. His scientific work focuses on the promotion of EBP and the prevention of falls in the elderly, with several indexed publications. He is also involved in mentoring, health promotion, and innovation in rehabilitation.
Webinar objectives
This webinar will explore healthy ageing and related factors in the Africa region as well as the role of physiotherapists in addressing challenges of old age. This will be followed by a presentation on risk factors of falls in a case presented from Cameroon and addressing prevention strategies that can be applied to the local context.
The webinar speakers will:
- Explore ageing and factors that determine successfully ageing
- Discuss challenges of old age and our roles as physiotherapists in mitigating those challenges
- Present an overview of the main risk factors for falls among the elderly in the city of Bafoussam (Cameroon) in 2025
- Gain insights on evidence-based prevention strategies adapted to the local context
