Improving Population Health (DS-02)

PHYSIOTHERAPY BEYOND FOUR WALLS: HOW TO ADRESS POPULATION HEALTH?

Outline:

This interactive discussion session will explore how population health is created and the ways in which physiotherapy contributes to growing health. There are many obvious direct contributions, for example service delivery to identify and manage musculoskeletal problems, but in this session, we will focus on the wider, more indirect and creative ways in which the physiotherapy workforce can contribute to growing health at population level by engaging in wider agendas such as active travel and community cohesion.

Objectives:
  1. Explore what we mean by population health and how healthcare fits into a population health model.
  2. Consider how what surrounds us, for example our jobs, environments and education, shapes our health.
  3. Explore physical activity in more detail as a building block of health and the role of physiotherapy in promoting good health.
