Long Covid (DS-01)

LONG COVID AS AN EXAMPLE FOR BRINGING VISIBILITY TO INVISIBLE DISABILITIES

Outline:

Long COVID is a term first used by people living with and affected by the longer term sequelae of COVID-19, bringing visibility to an often invisible global health crisis and disability. Using Long COVID as an exemplar, we will discuss invisible disabilities, the role of patient activism, historical contexts, role for safe and effective rehabilitation and testimonial injustice.

Objectives:
  1. To be able to better describe examples of invisible disabilities and complex chronic energy limiting health conditions
  2. To better embrace the greater and meaningful involvement of people living with health conditions in all responses to that condition
  3. To appreciate historical harms and trauma perpetuated by rehabilitation in response to complex chronic energy limiting health conditions
  4. To understand evidence based guidelines on safe and effective rehabilitation among people living with complex chronic energy limiting health conditions
