Briefing paper examines immediate impact of COVID-19 on entry level education

The briefing paper analyses survey responses from 35 regulatory organisations from 18 countries on their early experiences of the consequences of COVID-19 on entry level physiotherapist education. Their responses provided insights into their immediate challenges, how they addressed near-term issues and what, at this time, is the main issue related to entry level education.

The paper examines the effect of the pandemic on meeting pre-COVID19 accreditation requirements, 2020 entry to the profession, international mobility, and immediate changes in practice and how they should inform entry-level education.

World Physiotherapy president Emma Stokes said:

"It is great to see the results of this global survey from the regulators’ perspective on the impact of COVID-19 on entry level physiotherapy education. Some World Physiotherapy member organisations hold regulatory functions and many work closely with regulatory organisations.

"This paper will be very useful for our member organisations and the global physiotherapy education community."

This is the fourth in a series of briefing papers by World Physiotherapy exploring the response of the global physiotherapy profession to COVID-19. Previous papers have looked at the immediate impact of COVID-19 on the higher education sector, the impact on students, and rehabilitation and the vital role of physiotherapy.
