World Physiotherapy recently conducted the second in a series of four clinical education training sessions in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The sessions, 21-25 July 2025, were aimed at strengthening clinical skills and educational capacity within local rehabilitation institutions. In addition to participants from Dushanbe, four rehabilitation professionals from the rural region of Badakhshan also took part in the training.

Heather Dawson, World Physiotherapy volunteer mentor in Tajikistan, led the session, which focused on physiotherapy examination and evaluation techniques for adults. This initiative is part of World Physiotherapy’s ongoing partnership with the Republican Medical College under the Ministry of Health, which began in 2019, and has resulted in the successful development and implementation of the region’s first entry level physiotherapist education programme.

Ann Nicholson, World Physiotherapy development programme manager, said: “These training sessions build on six years of dedicated work, all aimed at establishing sustainable, high-quality physiotherapy services in Tajikistan and advancing the goal of universal health coverage for all.”
Clinical education training sessions in Tajikistan are scheduled to continue through 2026, supporting the growth of rehabilitation services across both urban and rural communities.
