Jonathon Kruger, World Physiotherapy chief executive officer, and Sidy Dieye, World Physiotherapy head of programmes and development, recently attended a meeting of the national council of the French National Council of the Order of Physiotherapists/Conseil national de l'ordre des masseurs-kinésithérapeutes (CNOMK).
They presented a detailed overview of the current state of physiotherapy on a global scale, with particular emphasis on French-speaking countries/territories, and discussed trends in the fields of education, research, advocacy for the recognition of the profession, and direct access.
The meeting highlighted the collaboration between CNOMK and World Physiotherapy and explored opportunities to strengthen the profession in French-speaking countries/territories.
Pascale Mathieu, CNOMK president, thanked World Physiotherapy for its support and advocacy to advance the profession in France, particularly around direct access.
At a separate event, after the meeting, Nicolas Pinsault, CNOMK vice president, was awarded a Knight of the Order of Academic Palms. The award recognises Nicolas’ contribution to the field of physiotherapy and the significance of his work in the academic environment of France.
Nicolas is a professor at the Université Grenoble Alpes and was presented with the award by Christine Ammirati, project manager, support for the universitarization of health professions, appointed by the ministry of health and prevention and the ministry of higher education and research.
In May 2023, the French government approved a formal five-year trial of direct access physiotherapy for physiotherapists who work in a multidisciplinary team with practitioners operating from different locations with a formal and contractual relationship for the coordination of care.
