Benin, like many within the international physiotherapy community, celebrated World Physical Therapy Day on 8th September.
The Association Beninoise des Kinesitherapeutes - Reeducateursts (ABEKIR) held a day of scientific programming on 7th September at the Grand Amphitheater of the Faculty of Health Sciences in Cotonou. The day focused on the role of physiotherapy in cardiovascular disease. Four main talks were given during the day, as well as 21 oral presentations on several topics which were grouped into four sessions.
Despite the heavy rain many physiotherapists joined the walkathon on 8th September which was centred around this year's "Physiotherapy and mental health" theme. After the walk, exercise classes and relaxation sessions were offered to the general public.
The activities were promoted via radio and television, as well as by posters put up around the city showing the events that were taking place throughout September to celebrate the day.
