Pakistan: World PT Day 2020

Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad

World PT Day was celebrated by the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) in collaboration with its adjunct department in the Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited Shifa International Hospital on 8 September 2020.

The head of department and member board of directors of the Pakistan Physical Therapy Association (PPTA), Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Sajjad briefed the audience in a seminar about the role of physical therapy in recovery of patients of COVID-19. 
 
A poster competition was held on account of the day to depict the role of physical therapists in the ongoing pandemic. Students actively participated in it and were awarded shields and certificates as a token of appreciation for their work. This was followed by a cake cutting ceremony.

Foundation University Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (FUIRS), Islamabad

Celebrations were held to mark World PT Day 2020 at FUIRS. A discussion was held on  "Rehabilitation after COVID-19 and its impact on the quality of life". All the faculty actively participated in the discussion.

Rathore Eye Hospital and Medical Complex, Gujranwala

World PT Day was celebrated at Rathore Eye Hospital and Medical Complex where a camp was arranged for the patients, 10:00 - 14:00. A routine check-up of patients was performed. World PT Day materials and stickers were given to the staff and doctors of the hospital. Awareness about physiotherapy, nutrition, dieting, exercise plans, physiotherapy treatments and World PT Day was given to everybody. It was a remarkable day and time for all patients, physiotherapists and the profession of physical therapy.

Physiotherapy Online

Physiotherapy Online organised a second Physiotherapy Workshop 2020 to  celebrate World PT Day 2020 on 27 September at the Karachi School of Business and Leadership, Auditorium. Due to Covid-19 mandatory SOP's were followed with social distancing, wearing masks, sanitising hands and a temperature check of each individual. Seventy participants and six speakers were registered. The programme started with keynote speakers which addressed the different aspects of this year's theme "Rehabilitation after Covid-19" to enhance public awareness. Renowned physiotherapists and health care professionals were invited as keynote speakers from the city with the following topics covered: 

  • impact of Covid-19 on women's health
  • physical therapy workforce and planning, ICU management & evidence
  • the emerging spectrum of Covid neurology
  • the role of rehabilitation in Covid-19
  • how Covid-19 is opening new doors for research innovation
  • stress management and mental health analysis

The programme ended with an interactive session and a certificate distribution ceremony.
