The Macau Physical Therapists Association (MPTA) organised the “Check Early · Move Often · Live Well” Health Talk on August 29 in support of World Physiotherapy Day 2026 . This year’s global campaign highlights physiotherapy’s role in preventing, managing, and rehabilitating cardiovascular disease and stroke. Around 120 community-dwelling older adults joined the event, which encouraged early risk awareness, healthier lifestyle choices, and regular physical activity, while showcasing physiotherapists’ growing contribution to primary healthcare and chronic-disease prevention.
The programme delivered accessible education on cardiovascular disease, stroke, and common risk factors, alongside the physiotherapist’s role in functional training and exercise prescription. Participants were guided through the American Heart Association’s My Life Check to identify personal cardiovascular-health risks and received individualised recommendations. Physiotherapists then led safe, adaptable exercises suited to different fitness levels, explaining key precautions for people managing chronic conditions. An interactive quiz reinforced the day’s core message—check early, move often, and live well—leaving participants with practical steps to protect their heart, brain, and long-term functional health . Overall, the event illustrated how physiotherapists extend their impact beyond rehabilitation into community health promotion, prevention, and sustained chronic-disease management.
