Ordem dos Fisioterapeutas/Order of Physiotherapists is the largest national physiotherapy association in Portugal and represents Portuguese physiotherapists. The Order of Physiotherapists has been a member of World Physiotherapy since 2023 and is part of our Europe region.

Physiotherapists in Portugal have been represented, previously by the Portuguese Association of Physiotherapists (APFISIO), in our organisation since 1963.

What is required to practice in the country/territory?

Since 1999, the professional title of physiotherapist is protected by law: Decreto-Lei nº 320/99, de 1 de Agosto. After 2019 the use of the title of Physiotherapists is reserved to those that are officially registered at Ordem dos Fisioterapeutas: Decreto-Lei nº 122/2019 de 30 de setembro / Regulamento n.º 359/2021 de 23 de abril The Ordem dos Fisioterapeutas is the competent authority for recognition of professional qualifications for migrants from the European Union (European Professional Cards)
