The independent-led governance review has been launched by World Rugby to examine the criteria for council members and identify best practice. The group is committed to ensuring World Rugby is effective in its governance and that its structures and leadership reflect the the sport’s spirit of inclusivity, universality and ambition. The group will also review diversity and gender balance within World Rugby.
Cathy is the first Fijian to be on the committee and was also the first woman from the Pacific to be a World Rugby Council member, as a representative of Oceania Rugby.
On her position in the committee, Cathy said:
“It is a humbling honour to be appointed to the World Rugby Governance Review Committee. My appointment is a culmination of years of work from a physiotherapist working in sports, to a Sports Administrator. My style of leadership is based on athlete/client welfare, integrity, professionalism: which are the foundation of my physiotherapy profession. Physiotherapy and sports are my two passions.”
Cathy has been integral to the history of sporting in Fiji: she has been a Board member of the Fijian National Sports Commission and National Olympic Committee, as well as the former president of the Fiji Physiotherapy Association. In 2013, she was made an Officer of the Order of Fiji, the most senior in the Fijian honours system.
