社團法人臺灣物理治療學會/Taiwan Physical Therapy Association (TPTA) recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, marking a milestone in the nation’s progress in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, with a number of events and activities.
Under the theme of A Legacy of Growth, A Future of Possibilities—Extend Beyond 50 Years, TPTA organised a conference, forums, continuing education sessions, and an annual membership meeting.
The conference, 6-7 September 2025, brought together more than 300 physiotherapists and health care professionals from 14 countries/territories. Global leaders of the profession invited to the conference included:
- Mike Landry, World Physiotherapy president
- Suh-Fang Jeng, World Physiotherapy vice president
- Kyle Covington, American Physical Therapy Association president
- Rik Dawson, Australian Physiotherapy Association president
- Sylvia Wojciechowski, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy chair

The global leaders shared insights on professional development and the future of physiotherapy during the legacy forum. In the super-age forum speakers explored the challenges posed by global aging populations, highlighting technology-driven solutions for ageing, and advocating for healthy-ageing policies. Physiotherapists from Australia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the UK shared their experiences and the possibilities in the current health care systems.

A highlight of the anniversary celebrations was the attendance of Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te, a former physiotherapist. President Lai commended TPTA’s 50 years of contribution to public health and pledged government support for a comprehensive framework empowering physiotherapists to expand their roles in preventive and rehabilitative care. He urged attendees to join in building a Healthy Taiwan, tackling the challenges of an aging society and promoting wellness through sports and active lifestyles.
TPTA also used the opportunity to celebrate World PT Day 2025, inviting guests at the conference party to join in an exercise session.

In addition to the conference, TPTA president Wendy Tzyy-Jiuan Wang, TPTA board members, Mike Landry, Suh-Fang Jeng, and other global physiotherapy leaders met with Taiwan’s Ministers of Health and Foreign Affairs to discuss strengthening healthcare policy, long-term care, and medical diplomacy. The meetings reaffirmed government support for direct access to physiotherapy and closer global collaboration.
