This year World Physiotherapy is celebrating it's 75th anniversary. The following activities are being held to mark the anniversary.

75 noteworthy physiotherapists

As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, World Physiotherapy is recognising 75 noteworthy physiotherapists whose work has made an exceptional impact on the profession at a national, regional or international level since 1951.

The 75 will be announced across World Physiotherapy’s social media platforms from 10 September, with one person recognised each day. Their contributions will also be celebrated on the World Physiotherapy website and in a special publication, which will be available online after the announcement of all recipients. Each recipient will also receive a hard copy of the publication, a certificate, and medal, with wider recognition and a press release planned for late November.

The Global Summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Physiotherapy

World Physiotherapy’s global summit will bring together international experts to explore how AI can be used responsibly and effectively across the profession, considering both its opportunities and potential challenges.

A key intended outcome is a practical global framework to support the considered and ethical use of AI across three pillars of physiotherapy: research, education, and practice. Rather than prescribing a single approach, it will set out principles that can be applied appropriately across different countries and contexts, while maintaining professional standards and a focus on the needs of patients and communities.

Founders' meeting

Representatives from World Physiotherapy’s founding member organisations came together in Halifax, Canada, in May 2026 to mark more than 75 years of global collaboration, connect and reflect on the development of the organisation and profession.

With a strong focus on the future, participants explored opportunities and challenges facing physiotherapy globally and contributed to the development of Physio2040 – the strategic vision that will help shape World Physiotherapy’s future priorities. Discussions highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in strengthening the profession and responding to emerging global health challenges.
