The practice of physical therapy in the Philippines is governed by the existing law entitle Republic Act 5680. Under Section 12, "No person shall practice or offer to practice physical therapy and occupational therapy in the Philippines as defined in this Act, without the prescription of a duly registered physician and a valid certificate of registration as a physical therapist or an occupational therapist..." With the current practice, this can be in an open (MDs are referring patients to PT without itemizing the specific management) or closed prescription (MDs indicating the specific management).
